Stamford-born Robert-John originally trained as a pianist and composer at Middlesex University and had small choral works performed at St Martin’s-in-the-Fields church and Lincoln and Winchester Cathedrals. He later trained as a singer, attending the Birmingham Conservatoire as a postgraduate, scoring a distinction and winning the PGDip course prize.
